Inverness Castle to George Square

The route we have choosen pretty much follows the Sustrans National Cycle Route 7, often refered to as the Lochs and Glens route. As we are covering such a large distance it's difficult to paste in the snapshots of the OS Maps, but I'll see if I can get them in a slide show or something.

Below are the elevation profiles of the journey (elevation in feet, distance in miles):

Day 1 - High point Slochd Summit circa 1350 feet.

Day 2 - High point Drumochter Pass circa 1500 feet

Day 3 - 3 High points - Glen Ogle, Achray Forest North of Aberfoyle, and just north of Drymen.

We have a mini bus with a bike trailer booked to collect us about 7am in Glasgow on the 25th April, to take us to Inverness, and expect to get there for about 11am.

We saddle up and head off down the trail to Newtonmore, passing through Aveimore, and Kingussie on route. this is the short leg of the trip, just 58 miles.

We are booked into a B&B for the night in Newtonmore.

After a hearty full Scottish breakfast in our stomachs to slow us down, we head off down past Dalwhinnie, Blair Athol, Pitlochry before heading west past Aberfeldy, Kenmore and stopping at Killin in a B&B for the night.

Another cycle slowing hearty Scottish break and we are off down past Lochearnhead, Callander, Aberfoyle, Drymen, Balloch and onto Glasgow.

As I keep telling the team, we are cycling from the North to the South, so it must all be down hill?!?

What's it all about?

What's it all about?
Fun!

Myself, Ian, and Andrew do a cycle ride every year for a week's holiday, touring the tracks and trails of Northern Scotland for a few hundred miles. This year we thought it might be nice to get a bit of early training in and rack up a few miles excercise, and before we knew where we were we were planning a trip from Inverness to Glasgow over 5 days as a warm up! We both then decided we didn't have the holidays for five days, so decided for a mad dash in 3 days, well really just 2 and half as we wouldn't get to Inverness until late morning! This training run was now a serious challenge, and Alan, & Alex liked the sound of it, so that was them in!

About the same time, an email came out at my work (National Australia Group) saying NAG had changed their charity to back Help the Hospices. Which started the ball rolling about "This is hard...why don't we see if we can get sponsored!" We all agreed and wanted to support our local children's hospice, Robin House, which is funded by Children's Hospice Assosiation Scotland (CHAS) which get's funding from Help the Hospices charity. So, we now had a challenge and a cause! Please follow the links and see the amazing work those guys(and gals) do!

At my frequent meetings with EMC, I brought up the topic, and Paul decided he would join us also as he's from Balloch (where Robin House is) and he likes a chellenge!

Simple as that!
